The concept of electric car depends completely on its type. So it’s important to know first what kind of electric car you are using. Commonly the basic parts of any of the electric car are like traction batteries, inverters, traction motors, on board chargers and controllers. The basic and different components of cars determine the way they perform and their function can be explained similar way.
How does it work
It functions in quite simple and elegant manner. This can be like:-
- First moving to the controller of the car, this is designed to regulate the electrical energy from the batteries and inverters.
- Now with the set of controller, the inverter then sends certain amount of electrical energy to the motor which depends on how much of pressure you implement on the pedal.
- Next comes the electric motor which helps in conversion of electrical energy into mechanical energy with the rotational manner.
- Then the rotation of the motor which helps the rotor to rotate the transmission. So that the wheels turn to move the car.

Basic components
Now the basic components of the electric car are like:-
- Traction battery which helps with storing the electrical energy in the form of direct current. This is rechargeable.
- The power inverter, which changes the direct current on the battery into alternating current and then this alternative current, is used by the electric motor. It also helps with regenerative braking to the DC current and then is used to recharge the battery.
- The controller which function to regulate the electrical energy from batteries and inverters to distribute that to the electric motors.
- The electric traction motor, which turn the transmission wheels. These are mostly into use by some of the hybrid varieties of cars.
- Charger is a battery charging device which gets electricity from the outside source.
Apart from these are the transmission which helps with transfer of mechanical power from the electric traction motor for driving the wheels and the DC/DC converter which is a part of electric car that converts the higher voltage DC power from the traction battery pack to the lower voltage DC power. Then there is a cooling system which maintains proper operating temperature of the engine.
